Building Community

Fall officially begins the morning of September 23rd.

Watching the children this week was a clear sign of the changing weather and those up and down weather days with wearing a jacket in the morning and shedding it by noon. It is a wonderful experience to see the children coming to Agape Preschool and being dropped and/or picked up by parents and lots of grandparents. The intergenerational community is quite the norm in Warrenville and represents the closeness of the families.

During the Johnson Family Connections, there were over 25 volunteers serving 150+ people during the first family night event. CBC was well represented with several members working behind the scenes. Several of the Warrenville churches also took the lead with cooking food and others in setup, greeting, serving, conversing and the cleanup.

One of my joys included serving food and seeing the smiles on the families’ faces and my greatest joy was when a young lady said she wanted to be baptized. That was totally unexpected and yet, just how God works. When we meet people where they are and establish relationships, it gives opportunity for the “good news” to be cultivated.

This was the best moment of what was just simply churches coming together to build community and provide resources. Our work in the community continues and will evolve to more interactions and understanding their needs, whether internet safety, childcare, financial budgeting, marriage relationships, care of creation, English as a second language or healthy habits and more.

This Sunday’s message from Matthew 20 is titled, “Re-Engage.” Come and see what the Lord is saying to us, for such a time as this.
