Our North Star

Community Baptist Church strives to be an expression of God’s grace in the world, creating sanctuary that welcomes everyone to live into the fullness of life God desires for all.

An excerpt from Howard Thurman’s Deep River and The Negro Spiritual Speaks of Life and Death: “There is a bottomless resourcefulness in man that ultimately enables him to transform ‘the spear of frustration into a shaft of light.’ Under such a circumstance even one’s deepest distress becomes so sanctified that a vast illumination points to the land one seeks. This is God in man; because of it, man stands in immediate candidacy for the power to absorb all the pain of life without destroying its joy.”

You will be welcomed and loved here. Life often leaves us feeling lonely, afraid, disheartened, or ignored.  You will be welcomed and loved here. We share one another’s joys, sorrows, and burdens. We lift each other up.

As the seasons of thanksgiving and joy approach, we help each other find the light and goodness that exists in the world. We are a sanctuary from the darkness. You will be loved and welcomed here. And whether you are here or not, we will hold you close in our hearts.
