Piano Recital by Mateus Furtado

Prepare for an afternoon of captivating musical artistry as accomplished pianist Mateus Furtado will present a solo recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at Community Baptist Church, 28W444 Main St. in Warrenville.

The church, which is celebrating 190 years of dedicated service to the Warrenville community, continues its tradition of hosting world-renowned musical talents by offering this exceptional performance as a free concert to the public.

Furtado brings a wealth of experience and accolades to the Warrenville community. He holds a bachelor’s degree in piano from the prestigious University of São Paulo, a master’s degree in Piano Performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts (CCPA), as well as a Performance Diploma, a pursuit made possible by a full-tuition scholarship.

His performance experience spans prestigious venues both in Brazil and internationally. Audiences have been enthralled by his performances at Teatro Castro Mendes, Teatro Adamastor, Fundação Oscar Americano, Auditório Cláudio Santoro, Sala São Paulo, Ganz Hall (Chicago), and Palacio de la Música (Mérida, Mexico). Furtado has also showcased his virtuosity as a soloist with esteemed orchestras such as the Orquestra Jovem de Guarulhos, Orquestra Sinfônica de Campinas, Orquestra Sinfónica de Yucatán, Orquestra Experimental de Repertório, and the CCPA Chamber Orchestra.

A dedicated participant in music festivals, Furtado has attended the Festival Internacional de Campos do Jordão on four occasions, earning a coveted recital performance at the 2024 edition. He also participated in the Festival Internacional de Música de Ávila in Spain. His exceptional talent has been recognized through numerous awards in national and international competitions, including Concurso Piano em Foco, I Concurso de Piano Gilberto Tinetti, LVMS Piano Competition (Chicago), Concurso Jovens Solistas GruPiano, the 8th Concurso Internacional de Piano “José Jacinto Cuevas: Yamaha (Mexico), the CCPA Concerto Competition (Chicago), XIV Concurso de Piano Prof. Edna Basseti Habith, and the 1st National Chopin Competition of Brazil.

The afternoon’s program will feature a compelling selection of works, including: Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827): Piano Sonata no. 4 in E-flat Major, Op. 7; Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849): Ballade no. 3 in A-flat Major, Op. 47; and Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953): Piano Sonata no. 7 in B-flat Major, Op. 83 “Stalingrad.”
