Summary:

Community Baptist Church (CBC), an American Baptist Church in Warrenville, IL (30 miles west of Chicago), is seeking a part-time Director of Music / Piano Accompanist to lead and grow our music program. This role involves close collaboration with the Senior Pastor to curate creative, meaningful, and spiritually enriching worship experiences for our congregation. CBC boasts a thriving music program, a deep appreciation for music, and a strong commitment to fostering engaging worship.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively plan and select all musical elements for worship services, including hymns, anthems, preludes, postludes, offertories, and other special music.
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Pastor to ensure seamless integration of music into worship themes and messages, with a focus on planning well in advance of services.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive rehearsal schedule, communicating plans to choir members and other musical groups with ample lead time.
  • Direct the church choir and other musical groups, guiding them to express and experience spiritual growth through their music.
  • Serve as the primary piano accompanist for all regular worship services and special events, such as weddings and funerals.
  • Maintain and expand the church’s music library, ensuring a diverse and accessible collection of sacred music resources.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop volunteer musicians to enhance the breadth and depth of the worship music program.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Sacred Music, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong piano proficiency with experience in accompanying choirs and soloists.
  • Demonstrated experience in directing choirs or other musical groups, with a proven ability to organize and lead effective rehearsals.
  • Familiarity with a broad range of choral and sacred music styles, including traditional and contemporary hymns, gospel, and liturgical music.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and collaborate constructively as part of a worship arts team.
